Putting Your Favourite Song Lyrics Onto a Canvas Print

So everybody has a favourite musician, band or song. It's a fact of life isn't it. All your friends may disagree with your choice but never the less they are your chosen favourite. It doesn't matter what other people think anyway!

A very popular way to show off your love of this is to have your favourite song lyrics added to a canvas print with a picture of the artist as well. They are eye catching, look fantastic & perhaps most importantly of all don't break the bank!

The great thing with these are that they are custom canvas prints made to look exactly how you want. For example some of my favourite artist's include Elvis Presley, The Beatles (in particular John Lennon) and Oasis so I made up some designs of my own to get printed. I got Imagine by John Lennon printed onto a white background with black font and a picture of him on the side, with Elvis I got If I Can Dream lyrics printed onto a black background with white writing & then finally I got the lyrics to Live Forever by Oasis on my last one with a photo of Noel Gallagher.

These prints look particularly striking with white writing printed onto a black background. You can have any colours you like but this is a classic that always works, well I think so anyway!

These art prints don't just work for song lyrics though, why not get your favourite motivational quote printed onto canvas so you can see it everyday to inspire you to greatness. It doesn't have to be a serious motivational quote it could be a witty one liner from your favourite sitcom, TV show or film. The motivational prints are a perfect way to decorate your office & meeting rooms to inspire your employees.

Or finally you could get a print of your favourite sportsman or team. I love tennis & my favourite player is Roger Federer so I printed an image of him with snippet of a speech he gave after winning Wimbledon one year. It looks great especially as canvas prints are 3D which makes them look so much better than a standard poster or picture in a frame.

Why not give it ago. Your own personal canvas print! I know I would rather something on my wall that was unique to me rather than a standard picture that thousands of people around the world have on their wall.

My name is Lee Mendez & I am a huge art & music fan. So I am very lucky in that I can link the 2 together through my business which is canvas printing. The Highest Leverage Drawing Skill

In order to become skilled at drawing you have to practice. That much is obvious. But many people practice for hours every week and only see minimal results. When this happens it is usually caused by not practicing the right things. As with any skill, you need to find the highest leverage aspects of whatever skill you are trying to achieve, and focus your efforts on those things. In drawing, there are a few of those, but one stands out far above the rest. What is it? Read on.

If you are really serious about becoming good at drawing you absolutely must see what you are looking at. This sounds really simple, but you would be surprised at how many people do not do this very important thing. As an art teacher I have seen it hundreds of times. A fumbling student is looking at something he/she is trying to draw and drawing something entirely different. It's not a matter of artistic skill. It's simply looking without seeing. We do it all the time.

If we analyzed every single thing we looked at we would cease to function from sheer analytic overload. So, our brains (smart as they are) have a solution to this dilemma. We pick up on certain patterns, recognize them, and then move on. For example, we see two eyes, a nose, and a mouth and our brain tells us that this is a face. No big deal. We go on with our lives. We don't have time to look at every face we encounter on a daily basis as something unique. However, when you are attempting to draw a face it becomes absolutely essential to do exactly that!

Every single face is different. Let me repeat that. Every single face is different. This is true with anything. You may draw the same apple every day of the year, but in the end you will have 365 unique apples. Why? Simply because there are so many variables that change every moment. Lighting, shadows, position, perspective, surroundings, aging,...etc. No moment ever repeats itself exactly. A great artist knows this well. And you must learn it too if you are to learn to draw well.

Many people consider themselves bad at drawing, but most of the time they are fine at drawing. The problem is that they are bad at seeing. It's something called schematic drawing, which I may write another article on later, but for now just know that you need to draw what you see, not what you think. This one thing will improve your drawing more than anything else.

What Is a Giclee Print and How Does It Fit Into the Art World? Buyers Beware!

Giclee art, giclee prints and giclee paintings are all the rage these days. They are, however, not always adequately represented. We will give you greater insight in this article about the intricacies of an industry that has begun to often mislead the public.

First what does giclee mean? Giclee is a modern printing technique that is used almost exclusively in creating a facsimile, a reproduction. The word "giclee" is from the French word for spittle, as the printer spits in a spraying fashion the colors being reproduced onto paper or canvas. It is not a very pretty word in French as it also refers to ejaculation and is therefore not very popular in France in trying to sell one's art as you can imagine.

The giclee printing technique uses a fancy printer which is not cheap making it mostly unavailable to the general public. The giclee image is generally of better quality than what you can obtain from your laser or inkjet printer. You may have seen giclee printing services at your local art store or online. These services will offer, on submission a high quality digital picture, the option to print that very image onto paper or canvas of varying sizes. You can order as many as you like and they will all look alike. The giglee printing company may enhance some colors for you and will keep your digital image on file for you to order more reproductions in the future. The set up cost is high enough to eliminate the general public and reserve the technique to artists, galleries, framing shops and small to large businesses. You do not just print one giclee as it would not make good business sense.

Giclees are offered throughout the art world today as real works of art and are often signed and numbered by the artist. Their appeal is in the perceived reasonable price and accessibility, they are nonetheless just copies costing very little in production. Philosophically art becomes art when the artist gives it life. If the artist wishes to distribute cheap versions of his or hers original work of art by using giclee then that is legitimate. There are more questionable circumstances though.

Giclee prints and giclee paintings are more and more often offered as the "real" thing. You will find them listed as "Original Giclee Painting" or "Original Giclee Art" which is very misleading. It has been our personal experience as dealers of original art that the public understand giclees to be original paintings or original art. Original art is unique in scope, it is not reproduced in any way and is not a knock-off of an original painting. Therefore Buyers Beware: when you buy a giclee you are just buying a fancy photocopy.

Engraving Glass

Engraving glass is not a difficult process, what is engraving glass? All it is, removing the top layer of glass from an object from its surface, weather that object is a mirror, car window or just a plain glass you plan on using every day at home. The process of doing this is the same for any item you plan to engrave. The description of how I do this process is a brief overview but does sum up the entire process.

The process for which I will describe is from using a sandblaster, and the media that I use to etch the glass is Aluminum oxide. I use the oxide because it has been found that the silica in silica sand causes cancer and seeing as that is not a good health benefit is why I use what I do.

To begin you just need to find or design whatever it is that you would like to engrave and get that image ready to use. Most of the images I use have to be what I call cleaned up, most generally the photos of things that are tried to be used have jagged edges on them, and this is because of the pixilation of the image on the computer screen. Cleaning up that image is not very hard but you will have to have some sort of graphics program to use so that you can get your picture to a vectorized state. Vectorizing a picture does not mean you're ready to engrave it is just one of the steps to get you closer to completing your project. One you have your photo vector you may still have to clean up the edges. Vectored images allow you to make those lines from jagged to smooth within your graphics program.

Once I have my photo complete, I'm ready to get it on to my media that I plan to blast through, which in my case is just regular sign vinyl. I use what is called a plotter to cut the image, once cut I pull out all the parts I don't want, (this will be the places that I blast through), then my photo is ready to be placed on whatever I plan on engraving.

Now the image is on my item I am ready to engrave it. I am sure though to mask off all edges that I don't want to blast, then I blast the item. That is really all there is to it and then you can sit back and enjoy your creation.

Paintings Are the First Thing You Notice on Entering a Room

The first thing you notice on entering a room is Paintings and Wall Art Prints hanging on the wall for the purpose of Wall Decor. An impact effect in a painting is a wonderful thing to observe for all. The color and depth used for this purpose gives tremendous beauty and this makes Paintings as the first thing you notice on entering a room for its aesthetic and artistic reasons associated with it.

Paintings have always been a great status symbol in modern society and because of this it can be quite normal to the casual viewer. For many the first impulse is to blow it off, to see it as a worthless plaything for the rich and boring. This happens to be Old School thought, not only because painting can be a great source of pleasure in our lives, but because even a passing acquaintance with art and painting can enrich and deepen our understanding of the world around us.

On entering the rooms you one notice is a painting and once you've got an overall look at the it, asks yourself "what's this art picture depicting?" Or maybe what is the subject o the painting? The subject might be landscape, an abstract painting or a scenic art but all these have a strong impact on the ambience and the thinkers mind. Some paintings won't have a subject-much of the work of the 20th century is abstract modern art, playing with form and color and even the quality of the paint than representing reality.

An onlooker looks at the painting as the expression of the heart and soul; it transmits cultural messages and the mysteries of the universe. It is born out of the desire of the artist to represent the forms of nature and man through the spirit of the artist as he perceives his world. As nowadays artist are representing their skills, ideas by putting them on web for all to see but also easier to sell a painting. So if you would want visitors to your office, home or a business place to look at the expression of art they can be found over several different websites who are representing skills of different artist from which you can easily find out different and beautiful paintings on different subjects like abstract painting, wall art prints and many more. Buying art to please the onlooker and convey a strong message is a modern day trend which has more aesthetic values associated to it.

When you walk into a room, the first thing you notice is the wall art or we can say paintings or prints of paintings hanging on the wall. The way one decorated their walls is a powerful means for the visitor to judge the kind of believers and culture one belongs from. Let us say, you walking into an office that holds a beautiful religious painting of a Hindu god, in a quick judgment you can realize the roots of the people to be that form India or Hinduism. The same can go for African Art Paintings, Pop art paintings being used for wall decor which gives a glimpse about people who share the space.

Thus in a sub-conscious mind, it is the habit of a human being to look at the wall paintings and prints as soon as you enter a room or an office.

Creating Eye Catching Graphics

With the constant tightening and increased stringency of image copyright laws and regulations, enforced both off line as well as online, finding appropriate graphics and images to accompany your product of creation, whether it be for an online article, an eBook, a CD cover, a video (YouTube or otherwise), or even for the creation of an entire website or product, can be an overwhelming procedure. This is especially true if you are not particularly gifted visually, or aesthetically, and creating your own designs on complicated graphic software is way beyond the scope of your imagination or achievement for that matter.

Probably the most effective tip that could be given with regard to the creation of graphic design is to become learned with the various available graphic design software programs that are both efficient and considerably user friendly. Two of the most consistent, reputable, and easy to use graphic design programs, include Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop. Both Illustrator and Photoshop do have learning curves, however.

Other alternatives which save money and are often more unique and original include actually going out and taking your own pictures or creating your own photographic setting, and then manipulating the images using specific software. This way you have a foundation to start with, whilst you are on your way to achieving your graphic designing endeavors.

Going out of your way to create something original and unique with the means that are available to you, such as a camera and a graphic software program, for example, is key to creating graphics that are eye catching.

Online readers and viewers are attracted to graphics that appear to be real, complex in nature, as well as interesting and aesthetically appealing. Avoiding showcasing graphics that look like they have been spewed out of a cheap software design program or cheap clip art library, in the duration of minutes, is half of the mastery of the art of creating eye catching graphics.

Also dedicating some time to thinking, reflecting and developing a smart, witty and iconic design, is essential. This is so because it can really help in ironing out the initial wrinkles that may be present due to insufficient consideration of the design itself.

Eye catching graphics which extend beyond the scope of online imagery and are significant in further driving a product sale or brand name can include logo designs, flyers and brochures, multipage brochures, and display panels. Being able to extend your marketing through the implementation of eye catching designs is certainly possible through the distribution of the above marketing tools.

The most important factor in guaranteeing the visual appeal of a printed graphic design is obviously the quality, the size, and the intensity of the print. Second, the general design of the paper format that the tool comes in can also make quite the difference. So deciding whether you would like to go for litho printing, screen printing or large format photographic prints, depending on the size and nature of your business, will increase the visual appeal and prominence of the graphic design.

And, if a person doesn't have the aptitude or willingness to learn different graphic design programs, this is a task that can easily be given to a company to accomplish. Sometimes business owners want to concentrate on running their businesses and let other experts handle jobs such as graphic design.

Mike S. Wilkins writes about graphic design and marketing plus other subjects for of interest to the retail marketplace.

How to Make a Chinese Hand Fan

Due to its understated and elegant simplicity, the Chinese hand fan has long been a household favorite as a decorative item as well as used for various traditional Chinese dances. It is also used as a cooling item. With a piece of paper, hand glue, two Popsicle sticks and a ribbon, here are five simple ways to show you how to make your own Chinese hand fan.

Firstly, get yourself a piece of paper, either plain or readily decorated. You can choose to use the standard A4 paper or a much larger paper. If you choose to use a plain piece of paper, it's best to use colored ones in prosperous Oriental colors such as in shades of red and gold. Rubber stamps can be used to make further decorations.

Secondly, you need to pleat the paper. This is a relatively simple task, but precision and detail is necessary if you want your hand fan to turn out looking good. The basic idea is to fold the paper into pleats that look like accordion fold. Start pleating the paper from the shorter horizontal side. Pleat the paper away from you, at about a half-inch distance. Once the first pleat is completed run your thumb along its length so that the pleat is crisp. Continue pleating, but remember to alternate the directions each time you fold the paper.

Thirdly, you need to glue the fan handle. If you do not have Popsicle sticks, you can use a tongue depressor. Whichever wooden stick you choose to use, make sure that its length is not shorter than ten inches because you need to have a few inches of it extending beyond the end of the paper. Glue the stick onto the outermost fold of the paper and remember to extend at least an inch or so beyond the paper's end. Repeat this to the other side.

Fourthly, close the fan. To do so, gather the pleats together and hold the ends of the paper at the bottom using your fingers so that it forms into a point. Using a tape or a ribbon, secure the pleats into the point.

Lastly, create the shape of the fan. Using a ribbon, tie the ends of the Popsicle sticks that have been met at the ends. Make sure the fan is wide open. To close the fan, bring the pleats together by gently moving the tops of the Popsicle sticks towards each other.

A Chinese hand fan is not only a great decorative piece; it is also a convenient and stylish cooling item. And now that you can make one by yourself, it is inexpensive too.

Although the info that old fashioned art galleries impose a commission rate for the fine art you can purchase is recognized by almost everybody, most people are unacquainted with exactly how extremely high such fees could be. Why You Should Buy Art From An Online Art Marketplace

Online art marketplaces make it very easy for customers of all ages and experience ranges to buy art! One of the ways they do this is by connecting the buyer and the artist directly over the internet and letting them set the terms of the sale by themselves with no middle-man. By dealing directly with the artists, prospective buyers can buy art at a price that suits both parties involved, and both can be satisfied with the deal they have made knowing that all of the details of the arrangement have been made before any money changes hands. If you want to buy art but do not have a lot of money to spend, why not discuss the price of a piece with the artist and see if there is any way they will reduce the cost of the piece you are interested in? In a traditional brick and mortar gallery setting this would be very difficult, if not impossible because of gallery fees that the artist must pay either directly or indirectly in the form of commissions fees. When dealing directly with the artist online, it is often possible to contact the artist and make an offer on a piece of work they have for sale. An artist will likely be much more open to discussing their prices in this situation, as they are avoiding the usual commissions of 50 or 60 per cent they would be paying to a gallery. A word of advice on this topic: never offer less than 75% of the total asking price, because under most circumstances this sort of offer will not be accepted by the artist and will have been a use of time that could have been better spent elsewhere.

If you choose to buy art from an online art marketplace, brace yourself for all of the benefits and beauty of a traditional gallery setting with far fewer drawbacks! If you have ever been to a classic gallery, you know how difficult it can be to see the lesser-known work on display, get any questions you have answered, and to deal with pushy staff. And of course there is the commission fee that is an important part of the traditional way art is sold, which can easily be upwards of 50% and 60% of the total price of the art for sale. These are only some of the things that can put off potential customers who would like to buy art but do not know where to start.

When you buy art from an online gallery or marketplace, you are exchanging this out-dated way of doing things for a new way that is better in many ways. First and foremost is the ease and convenience with which someone can browse and buy art from a gallery website. Many of these virtual galleries offer artists the ability to display multiple high-resolution photos of their pieces for sale, giving buyers every opportunity to see the piece from more than one angle. Contacting the artist directly is also something you can do much more readily through an online marketplace; discuss anything from price to shipping methods to the inspiration for the piece! And last but not least, there is no one hovering over you pressuring you to make a sale, and no one between you and the artist unless you want to bring someone into the deal from your side. The artist is easily able to represent themselves, and this saves both the artist and the person who wants to buy art the trouble of having to go through and deal with the owners and staff of a traditional gallery.

One of the best places to buy art online, Artweb.net has some of the best resources to aid a buyer in their quest to find and buy art that is original and unique for a fair price.

How Does T-Shirt Screen Printing Work?

Look through your dresser, closet, or dirty clothes hamper, and you'll probably find some screen printed t-shirts. Tees with images, sayings, and company logos printed on them are popular casual shirts. Have you ever wondered just how those bright graphics get on those t-shirts? The most common process, screen printing, involves several steps and is a bit more complex than you might think.

Any screen printed t-shirt starts with the design. A digital art file in vector format, like.EPS or.AI, is the easiest to work with, because it can be enlarged or reduced to the desired imprint size without compromising the quality. Most screen printing is done with "spot color" designs, meaning the design has a few distinct colors rather than the full spectrum of the rainbow. These colors are identified according to the Pantone Matching System, or their "PMS colors," which enables an exact color match. The simplest screen printing project is a one-color design.

Next, the screens must be created, one per color. A screen is kind of like a big stencil. It will allow the ink to be applied exactly where it's supposed to go, and nowhere else. First, a very fine mesh is stretched over a rectangular frame. Then the screen is covered with a photo-reactive substance - that is, a substance that changes when it's exposed to light. The design is printed on a transparent film, so light can pass through some areas but not others. Where the light passes through, the emulsion will harden, but the areas that stay dark will remain soft. Those areas are sprayed with a high-pressure hose, so they become the open areas through which ink will pass onto the t-shirt.

There are several different options for screen printing ink. The most commonly used ink is called plastisol. Made of particles of PVC suspended in an emulsion, plastisol inks are easy to work with because they will not dry up if left out in the open. Of course, that means they can't just be left out to dry - they have to be passed under a heat lamp to cure before they can be worn. The downside to plastisol is that it can feel like, well, plastic. Water-based inks require more labor during printing, but they yield a softer finish. Discharge inks actually remove the dye from darker fabrics, and they cannot be felt at all when the garment is touched.

Once the screens are ready and the ink has been chosen and mixed to the right color, the actual printing process takes place. In a simple tabletop press, the printer lays out the t-shirt, lowers the screen on top of it, and pulls the squeegee and ink across the screen by hand for each color. In an automated mechanical press, hydraulics handle the heavy lifting, allowing more shirts to be completed in less time. Then the shirts must dry or cure, depending on the ink used.

This process determines how screen printed t-shirts are priced. The labor involved in creating and setting up the screens is known as the "screen charge." This is the same whether you're printing 10 shirts or 10,000 shirts. The per-piece price depends on the number of colors in the design, since there is additional labor for each additional color, and the quantity of the shirts. Per-piece price goes up with additional colors, and down with greater quantity.

There are alternatives to screen printing. One is dye sublimation printing, which is designed for polyester t-shirts. This method involves transferring the image from heat-resistant paper onto the shirts, where extreme heat turns the ink into a gas that binds to the fabric at the molecular level. It is slow and labor-intensive, but it allows for vibrant full-color images that cover the garment completely.

Another option is direct-to-garment printing. This is sort of like the desktop inkjet printer attached to your personal computer, with cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink. No screens are required for direct-to-garment printing, which makes it ideal for small projects. Online retailers like Café Press and Zazzle use direct-to-garment printing for their personalized t-shirts, which you can order one at a time instead of in a large batch.

To decide which t-shirt screen printing method is right for your project, consider the number of shirts you want to print, your budget, and the desired "look" you're going for. The decorated apparel experts at Gorilla Marketing can handle everything from start to finish.

Nothing Scary About Photoshop Hair Masking!

It need not be a frustrating experience extracting hair from an image. The first thing is to abandon the thought of using any clipping path. While this technique works well for refining edges for cut outs, it can be a cropper when it comes to hair cutting. Just goes on to say that what works best for one image may prove to be a disaster for another one. Two things that can become a challenge even for the veteran editor is a lady with her long hair flying with a fur hat! So the editor has to work on the hair and the fur simultaneously. To make the job convenient it is best to depend on the ever-dependable Photoshop applications. A smart solution lies in using a similar background that can merge some stray strands in its color scheme.

An editor might ask why can the photographer not control the flyaway hair in the first place? Well, if it is windy outdoors or if inside a fan propeller comes in the way of a great shot, it cannot be helped. But since the photographer knows that he can fall back on the professional photo editing services, he is assured that the hair can be removed or extracted. This way no one has to compromise at any stage. But for an editor it need not be a harrowing experience. The grass is always greener on the other side! An editor who has a sharp eye for detail hair analysis can perform a better masking technique. The hair can be masked via selecting channels and also doing layer adjustments. Photoshop CS3 is great software that can help also color the hair and give the best hair cut like a stylist!

Some valuable tips for hair masking

Using the color blue that is used for chroma keying is a valuable asset. It provides clarity for the editing process. Duplicating layers and then working on it is the next step. A layer mask is then added to the picture. The feathered brush is used from the palette. This is used for those sections, which cannot be blended with the rest of the picture. An editor with a good eye may be able to see a halo around; if it is visible then it can be removed with the burn tool.

This tip may work for a specific need. But obviously it is likely to give ideas for customizing it for a client. Using it in exactly in the same way may not bring the right result. There are many other ways to cut the hair or mask it. It also depends on the hair type. For example curly hair, or ringed hair may pose an additional problem while masking. The different color of the hair in another picture will also have to be considered. To know more how Photoshop hair masking can be beneficial, discuss the technique or experiment till the right method is achieved. The paths may be many, but ultimately, the final result is what matters.

How the Role of the Graphic Designer Has Changed

In recent years there have been dramatic changes in the way the Graphic Designer is being used. For a variety of reasons, the role of the designer has altered and is having to adapt to meet fast changing circumstances.

Customers nowadays expect a quicker turnaround with the knowledge that communication, proofing and printing techniques have improved.

A few years ago hard copy proofs were the standard for most jobs with the client signing off a paper proof. This took time with the proof often sitting on the client's desk for some time before being returned.

Nowadays, PDF proofs have taken over. Clients on the whole prefer the speed and ease of receiving a proof by email. However, this can often result in less time and thought being given to checking it over. The act of signing one's name on a piece of paper somehow puts a greater weight of responsibility on the shoulders of the client. It only takes the click of a mouse to approved a PDF proof.

The financial crisis is imposing increased demands on ever smaller marketing departments attempting to manage with ever shrinking budgets. The impact this has on the designer is that jobs requiring urgent attention can arrive without any prior warning, they may be poorly briefed and not part of any cohesive marketing plan. The designer regularly has to second guess what is required, juggle jobs, working quickly to keep all the balls in the air and all his clients happy. Today's designer has had to become a diplomat as well as a creative.

Improvements in creative software packages have benefited the graphic designer to a large degree but have also increased the number of potential customers and amateur enthusiasts tempted to try their hand at designing for themselves (often with disastrous results). The growing empathises on cost over quality has become a real challenge for any graphic designer who wants to produce good quality creative material and maintain standards. Their quotes have to be highly competitive and they have had to learn to work fast and develop their skills, to remain in business. Fortunately there are those who still see the true benefits of good graphic design and understand what damage that can be done to a brand's image and reputation through bad design.

Graphic design for print and the print industry in general has declined significantly in recent years with the growth of the internet. In addition, customers now have the option of short digital runs rather than printing in bulk. Printed collateral material can still afford great benefits but is allocated a smaller share of the marketing budget than it did 10 years ago.

As graphic designers based in Basingstoke, Hampshire we have had to evolve greatly, working a faster in a more demanding environment by learning new skills and developing streamlined working methods. Where will the industry be in another 10 years? Watch this space.

How Decoupage Project Helps

Decoupage projects using cheap copier paper lying around the office or home is a great way to protect the environment. Efforts to find uses for waste items are a good way to reduce landfill waste. To start off with the project, it is important to look for an item to decorate. Old bottles, furniture pieces and boxes can be utilized for this project. Assemble the supplies needed and sort the cheap printing paper to be used, along with colorful magazines and postcards. Prior to gluing, it is best to plan out the design of the decoupage project. This ensures that there is enough material for the project and minimizes errors. It can be quite difficult rearranging paper with sticky glue, so layout is essential.

Mix plain white glue with water using a Popsicle stick or any sturdy item which can be used for mixing and spreading. Apply the glue mixture to cheap print paper cutouts and glue each one to the object. Smooth the paper out to get rid of wrinkles or folds which will affect the outcome of the project. Glue subsequent layers and overlap each piece to ensure the entire surface is covered. Let the project dry completely prior to proceeding to the next step. Trim any cheap copier paper at the sides of the surface for a cleaner look. Apply lacquer or varnish for a perfect finish. Art supply stores have decoupage finish varnish which should be applied in multiple coats. The ideal number of coats would be 5, but additional coats can be added according to preference. After fully drying out the material, the project can now be displayed in the home or office. Decoupage is one of the brilliant ways of recycling cheap copier paper instead of throwing it directly into the waste bin. Paper clutter is expected in the office or home. Copier paper is a fundamental supply in the workplace, as daily operations require copier paper for printout requirements. Given the increasing paper consumption in the UK, there are creative ways to make use of waste copier paper instead of throwing it out in the waste bin. One solution for waste reduction campaigns on landfills is to use printouts which are no longer needed for decoupage projects.

Decoupage is a decorative art form which requires gluing paper cutouts in various materials. The technique has been used as early as the 18th century in France and Italy, with works resulting in a painting-like effect. The art technique requires only a few household supplies, but primarily demands recycled paper to create desired effects. Compiled waste copier paper can be used for this project along with colorful magazines and catalogues. The copier paper chosen is critical to make the project beautiful.

Choosing paper carefully is important to get the best results. Mixing and matching various papers is the secret to a successful decoupage project. Low quality copier paper will be troublesome for a decoupage project. Copier paper with denser weight combined with high quality cards or colorful paper is best. Aside from paper, other supplies such as cutting materials, glue, smoother and spreaders, along with rags and cleaning materials are also required. Resourcefulness and creativity are the secrets of great decoupage artists. Finding interesting and unique materials contribute to the success of the project. A decoupage project is the perfect way to recycle materials found lying around the home or office. Look for recycled materials like used bottles and boxes to decorate. Along with recycling waste copier paper, the project is a great way to reduce the amount of rubbish in landfills. Taking recycling efforts further through creative ways is always a good idea.

Trim any cheap copier paper at the sides of the surface for a cleaner look. Apply lacquer or varnish for a perfect finish. Art supply stores have decoupage finish varnish which should be applied in multiple coats.

Tips to Draw Realistic Portraits

Drawing a Realistic Portrait can be a very hard task for most people when first learning to draw a portrait. Though there are many useful tips and tricks to help not only make your portrait look more realistic but it will also help you use your time more wisely.

When I was a young teen I began drawing portraits and teaching myself many tricks to help make my portraits look more realistic and to manage my time. Eventually, I increased my time greatly and was drawing portraits in about 1.5 hours. This was very helpful because I started receiving requests to draw friends and family.

What you will need to begin drawing is a photograph, piece of sketch paper, and a drawing pencil. Everyone has their own preferences when choosing drawing paper, pencil, and the size of the photograph to draw from.

Based on experience; It is best to draw an outline of the human face first. Here are some tips to help draw the face. This is the order I always used.

*Eyes first: The distance between the eyes is the same length as one of the eyes;

*Nose next: The width of the nose is the same distance between both eyes;

The length of the nose is one and half the length of the eyes;

*Mouth: The edges of the mouth line up with the eye pupils;

*Outline of Face: From hairline to eyebrows, is the same distance from the eyebrows to the top of the nose. This is also the same distance from the tip of the nose to the chin.

*Ears: The ears begin at the eyebrows and end at the mouth.

Other useful tips include:

*Use the tip of your pencil to help measure facial features.

*Always start with a soft leaded pencil. If the pencil is too sharp or the lead is to hard and you decide to erase something; it may show a shadow or indent in the paper of what was originally drawn.

*Use a kneaded eraser. Kneaded eraser's are great because they can be used repeatedly and they do not leave any marks or dust on the paper.

*Do not rush to finish just because you are anxious to get done. If you started out taking your time, continue to do so. You can see a difference when the drawing is complete.

*If something does not look right to you and you can't figure out what it is. Walk away for at least an hour. When you go back to the drawing; it is usually obvious at that point what needs fixing.

*Always welcome constructive criticism. Allowing people to critique your artworks will help gain perfection and speed.

The Use of Effective Exhibit Graphics

Business fairs are used for getting people's attention and building business leads. An exhibitor looking to accomplish these goals should be thinking ahead to make certain that his or her exhibit graphics could stand out from the rest.

The focal point of your design: Use effective images

The design and layout of your graphics depends on the product or service your enterprise is trying to highlight. Numerous businesses that produce several brands and products should consider this feature carefully. For instance, if the product is infant formula or vitamins, you should employ an effective image to push the milk's brand name. You could put relevant images like images of a mother and child or a healthy baby.

What's the best size for exhibit graphics?

The sizes of the images depends on your exhibit space outside and inside the trade hall area. If you paid for the entire building facade, you should think about large tarpaulins or banners at museum graphic sizes.

Have you ever been to a museum and there was supposed to be a new exhibit or show? Do you recall how large the banners used that headlined the events? Your banners and tarpaulins really should be convincing enough for everybody. They must have information or brief description about your event. They're a few of the factors you should consider if you want to create excitement in your booth.

Other important things to contemplate: Organizing and arrangement of exhibit graphics

If your firm is bound to show off various brands and multiple products, you can make use of an enticing tagline that is thought-provoking and will induce the interest of the guests. Always include all brand logos on the banner. This is the best and safest thing you can do.

Ask people from your business if they plan to set up the logos from first product ever produced to the most recent. Some companies want to begin with the latest ones. Different managers might also want to see it organized alphabetically so don't neglect this factor. Once you finalize all the details, put it in paper and get them signed by authorized persons.

Other considerations

Good quality graphics alone might not be enough to attract attention. You may also add other items such as audio, lights, and other decoration. Form numerous committees and delegate them different tasks. Always get an appropriate lighting system to add more flavor to the booth. This will help you entice prospective clients. Utilize advanced technologies like high definition wide screen and premium quality audio speakers to show your product demonstrations or company advertisement.

If you're presenting food items, make sure you have samples to give. It is also better to give away souvenirs like company mugs, shirts, keychains, lanyard, wall clocks, and business cards.

What Is a Print? What Makes a Print a Fine Art Print?

A print is a single piece of paper with an image on it among multiple copies made from the transfer of ink from a prepared surface onto a piece of paper. This means that an artist creates an image on the surface of wood, copper, steel or stone which is to be ultimately printed.

The surface created by the artist then goes through special treatment that varies depending on the material and technique the artist has chosen. The surface is then inked. A piece of paper is then put on the inked surface. The whole surface is then run through a press under pressure or tools are used to rub the back of the paper so that the ink transfers onto the paper.

After removing the paper from the image surface you will see the inked image in reverse from the original image. Multiple copies can be made from the artist's creation. The surface on which the image was created is often called a plate. However each copy from the plate may be slightly different because in differences in inking, colors applied and the fact that plates made of copper for example wear down every time you put pressure on them with the press.

Prints have been with us since the 1460s when the first prints were made from wooden plates which were cut with knives to create ridges where ink could be applied and a print created. Shortly after Gutenberg adapted movable type to make his first printed Bible to which woodcut images were included. Today there are computerized prints we call digital which are all identical to one another. Another digital print is the giclee print. These are redefining the fine art world since they no longer demand as much skills from craftsmen and can be printed identically infinitely.

This is not the case of the traditional art printing techniques which are more unique in character and share very old traditions associated with the greatest artist such as Rembrandt. This is the realm of fine art printers must be differentiated from the mass printing of today. Although over the centuries fine art printers were often accused of commercialism such as the giclee printer is today there is a depth that can not be achieved by any other method than using fine art printmaking.

There are a great many types of fine art prints. Four basic methods are used to achieve the variety in prints, they are relief printing, intaglio printing, planographic printing and screenprinting. Each one involves a different process and gives a different look. What they all share is offering the art viewer a window into the soul of the artist that is limited to the number of prints that were made.

The Four Basic Methods of Fine Art Printing: Refief, Intaglio, Planographic and Screen Printing

Fine art printing is about printing images using artistic tools that have a long tradition behind them and therefore excludes the new digital printing technologies such as the giclee print which is a fancy ink-jet print. Fine art prints include those by the great masters of the last five centuries as well as a multitude of talented artists whose work is less known.

The four basic methods at the disposal of fine art artists are relief, intaglio, planographic and screenprinting.

Relief printing is the oldest of the four. The artist uses sharp tools to cut away at the surface of a material they want to use to print with. At first artists used wood and created the woodcut. They would gouge out slivers of wood out of a woodblock using their knives to leave only raised edges. These raised portions could receive ink which with a laid piece of paper on them could transfer an image on to the paper, creating a print. To get an even pressure on the wood to transfer the ink a press would be used. One could also use a spoon or rounded tool to put pressure on the paper to receive the inks. Centuries later linoleum would be used as well creating the linocut print.

Intaglio printing is pronounced "in-Tah-lee-oh". It is essentially the opposite of relief printing as ink is in the grooves rather than on the raised relief of a woodcut. The prints made using intaglio printing are mainly engravings and etchings.

Engravers use sharp tools called burins to cut into a metal plate made of copper and later steel. By incising minuscule grooves in the metal the engraver creates an image that can be printed. Ink is rolled onto the metal plate, the ink penetrates the incisions and the excess wiped off. Paper is applied to the metal plate and under great pressure from a press an engraving is pulled.

An etching is another type of intaglio print in which the artist applies a varnish substance to a metal plate and then draws with needle-like tools on the metal plate. The tools expose the metal by removing the varnish, called ground. Acid is then applied to the metal plate and the acid cuts into the areas of the plate that have been exposed by the removed ground. The metal plate is then inked and an etching is pulled from a press.

Planographic prints is the domain of lithography, which uses a stone to apply the art work. The artist can draw immediately on a lithographic stone with oily pencils and crayons. A substance is then layered on top of the drawing that will allow the drawn area to accept inks. The stone is then inked and then a lithograph print is pulled. This method was discovered in 1796 by Alois Senefelder in Austria.

Screenprinting is the most recent addition to fine art printing, it is also known as a serigraph. It is much like a stencil in which the artist stomps out the area not to be printed on a screen with special glues. Screenprinting is often associated with commercial printing but American pop artists loved the ease it offered in creating art.

How To Draw Manga Faces Step By Step

Drawing the face is the most crucial point to any illustration. The face holds the capacity for expression, and therefore reveals the character's personality, thoughts, and desires.

I like to think of the face as the house of the character's soul. There is so much about an anime or manga character that you can show through the face.

For example, a scar on the face suggests that this character is battle-worn and a warrior. On the other hand, big, glistening eyes and unblemished skin imply innocence and youth.

Character attributes can be blatant or subtle. That's up to you. So have fun with it and play around.

Part of the beauty of manga art is that you can use facial features, expressions, and other graphical tools to convey your character's personality to the audience. Much of your characters background and temperament must be conveyed without using words.

Expressions communicate the ever changing emotional state of the character. Surprise, fear, anger, love, worry, and rage are all emotions revealed and highlighted by facial features.

For example, the eyebrows angled down portray anger; an upturned mouth signifies happiness.

In manga, these expressions are dramatically exaggerated, but they are simplified. These simplified lines increase the clarity of the images and send a stronger signal to the viewer.

The shape of a character's head can also be used to show age and personality.

Youthful manga characters have rounder heads and bigger eyes. As they age, the eyes become smaller and the head narrows and lengthens.

Ok, so here is how you draw a manga face:

Step 1- Draw a circle. This will be the head. Next, add the jaw. Make sure the jaw is symmetrical because we are looking at the face from head on.

Step 2- Draw a vertical line down the middle of the face. This will act as a guide for the eyes, nose, and mouth.

Step 3- Sketch the eyes and nose.

Step 4- Add in the details for the eyes. Don't worry too much about what they look like at this point. You'll learn to perfect your eye drawings as you progress.

Step 5- Add the eyebrows and hair. Have fun and experiment with the angle of the eyebrows. You'll find that you can make a pretty wide range of emotions just by varying the degree of the eyebrows.

Also, notice that manga ears are generally smaller than real ears and can stick further out.

After that, erase any pencil lines left over.

The Dos and Don'ts of Custom Button Design

I have set up a lot of custom buttons over the years, some better designed than others. Over the years I've noticed that all of the buttons that have appealed to me the most have a few elements in common. The best designed buttons are simple, bold, and to the point.

Do keep things short and sweet. Don't try to squeeze too much in a small space.
Think of your button as mobile billboard. You have about five seconds to grab someone's attention, and 5 more for them to read your message. Keep your message clear and to the point. Buttons are small, and even if you have the greatest product or candidate in the world, if no one reads your button what's the point?

Do Use Bold Easy to Read Fonts. Don't use Comic Sans.
Large bold fonts will get your message noticed. Small thin display fonts will not. More than likely the demographic you're going after is over 12 years old. With this in mind you should not use Comic Sans as your default font choice.

Do use Color to your Advantage. Don't over do it.
Talking about color can be difficult. What is pleasing to one eye may not be to another. There is nothing wrong in choosing a color scheme because you like it, however, you do want to make sure that you color choices do not detract from your message. Keeping with a simple color scheme is a safe bet. When in doubt, consult a color wheel.

Type Color and Background Color
You want the messaging of your custom buttons to stand out. Make sure that the color of your type contrasts with your background. Don't put pink type on a red background, it will get lost. If you really want to keep the colors of your background and type close, try outlining the type or adding a glow or drop shadow. Remember when choosing the colors for your fonts and backgrounds that you are viewing them in RGB, and when they get printed in CMYK they may not appear to contrast nearly as much.

Choosing the Right Font
When designing your custom button take into consideration the actual size of the finished product. It's easy to forget that a one inch button is only about the size of a quarter especially when you're viewing it on a 27" monitor which displays the design 200-400 times bigger than it will print. That tiny 3 point type you added will not be visible or printable. On smaller buttons bold San-serifed fonts with clean lines are much more readable than italicized, wispy serifed display fonts. The cleaner the font the better.

Although we use high quality digital printers capable of printing up to 2400×2400 DPI, we can't make magic happen. Always make a test print of your button design at home to be sure the fonts make sense when printed. What you see on your screen may not always translate well into print. To be sure your type is readable when printed try not to use a type size smaller than 5 points.

Saving your Text
If you're saving your artwork as a.jpg this does not apply to you, but if you're working with a layered file time like PSD it does. There are thousands and thousands of fonts in existence for both MACs and PCs, and we don't have them all. When digital art is supplied to us with missing fonts, it makes processing your order problematic. You picked your fonts for a reason and don't need us making substitutions. You have two choices, embed your fonts into your graphic, or convert them to outlines. Most graphic design software can embed/create outlines relatively painlessly. If you need help figuring your software out, don't hesitate to contact us.

Great Photo Collage Ideas

There is no greater freedom of expression than in a collage. While one can design a collage with any concept, photo collages are a great way of preserving memories of events over a period of time. Here are some ideas to tickle your thought buds and get you to start thinking about your very own photo collage.

An expressions collage

Joy, laughter, thoughtfulness and wonder are just a few of the myriad expressions we all use day to day. While portraits usually have just one of these expressions, photo collages can have all of them in one portrait. Such a collage of expressions can be designed for anyone. However we recommend them as ideal tools to capture your teenager's or your child's expressions and create a portrait for their rooms.

An events collage

A wedding, birthday or an anniversary give the ideal occasion for an extended family and friends get together. These occasions create many special memories which are put together in an album. These albums seldom get seen and lie in the shelves. Creation of an events collage for special occasions is thus a great idea. You can put together important moments, best photos of a particular event and arrange them in one of the different collage designs.

A family collage

Family portraits are now done in a range of ways. One amongst the range of innovative family portrait styles is that of a photo collage. Portraits of different members of the family can be put together in the form of a collage that looks great in the living room area.

Lover's collage

If you are looking for a great way to mark your love for one another, this is a great option. Different photos of the two of you together makes for a great lover's collage. You can put together pictures of your travels or simply go for professional portraits that can be assimilated. While these look good in any room, you can match them to your bedroom décor and display it there.

A business collage

If you thought that collages are just for personal usage, then here is something to make you rethink. These look great for office décor too. You can get a collage of your varied employees, a special occasion in the company or one of your products/services/offerings. These make for great displays in the lounge or waiting area as prospective clients get to know more details of your organization while waiting for you.

Collages are a great creative medium of expression. They help communicate much more than a single photo can. Moreover, they can be created with content/messages if desired. Pop art style collages are extremely popular too, helping to create a range of effects and also bringing in uniformity into a portrait. While today the Internet offers free tools to create photo collages, we recommend that you work with experts for best results. Professional artists are well versed with the right tools, techniques and mediums and can provide you great looking collages. As these are memories that will last a lifetime, be sure that you get the photo collage only from quality providers.

Caring for Your Textured Pottery

Texture can add a special flair to your decorative and functional pottery ware. At the same time the texture can create a challenge when keeping a piece clean and free from chips which can greatly mar the beauty. The more raised and delicate parts to the texture the more care need be taking when using and cleaning.

Keep your pottery out of direct sunlight which will fade hand painted pottery. Using a feather duster or lint free cloth, dust regularly to keep dust from building up in the nooks created by the texture so that washing is necessary less frequently.

You can wash your pottery by hand. Don't use a dishwasher as the soaps can damage the finish and items in the dishwasher can strike your lovely pottery leaving nicks, scratches and chips. Do not soak pottery unless it has a hard, good quality finish. Unfinished feet and other parts may soak up cleaning solutions which can leach out onto carpet and other fabrics once put back into place.

It is very likely that your textured pottery is made from porous stoneware, which can be prone to mildew in hot, humid conditions. To prevent growth of mildew, keep the piece in an airy location for a few days after rinsing clean and patting dry, before putting away into a cabinet.

For china, porcelain, and other pieces with all over finishes which can safely be submerged in water. Start by placing a pad into the bottom of the sink before filling with warm water to which a small amount of gentle dishwashing detergent has been added. Gently place your pottery piece into the sink and clean only one piece at a time.

Sponging carefully with a soft sponge soaked with warm water and a gentle washing detergent followed by a quick but thorough rinsing with hot water can clean most pieces. You can use a toothbrush or dish brush if necessary to remover dirt and dried food from small niches created by the textures. Acetate or citrus based cleaner can remove sticky residue from tags, but use sparingly. Full strength white vinegar is useful for removing mineral deposits from yard sale finds or pieces well used and long stored. Use bleach sparingly. A 50/50 solution can clean the discolored area around stress cracks but it may eventually affect the integrity of the pottery ware,

It may be necessary to give added attention to highly textured pottery to ensure it dries properly. Most pieces can be patted dry with a cloth and set in an airy location as described to prevent mildew. If there are many little nooks and crannies in your textured piece you may want to use a blow dryer to force moisture out of small niches, dry it quickly, and return it to a secure place for display.

If these tips don't solve your cleaning needs more specific problems can be addressed by antique pottery experts found through an internet search.

Textured Pottery Techniques

Textured pottery is something that you may look for or have in your personal pottery collection. Those appealing textures can be created in a variety of ways. You may be interested in knowing how the variety of textures is achieved through the various steps of the creative process.

During the forming process, texture can be applied to the pot once the general shape and rim have been created. Roulette is a technique which creates texture using a gear or similar tool on the surface of the pot while the wheel is turning. Once the process of Roulette is completed the pot can be pushed out and reshaped by using a tool to apply pressure from the inside.

Chattering creates a texture on a completely formed and dryer pot. This method uses a flexible metal tool. The appearance of the final product is determined by the speed of the wheel and the pressure placed on the tool. A slow speed on the wheel increases the spacing between the lines created, the faster the speed of the wheel the closer the marks.

Stamping can be used on both wheel created pots, slabs, and other hand building techniques. Many clay artists will create their personal stamps with found objects, a variety of household items, or may carve them from clay. Different textures can be achieved through the use of rope, a fluting tool, textured rollers, and textured mats.

Appliqué creates a raised texture on the pots. Pieces can be cut individually and attached to partially dried or leather hard greenware to form a pattern. Slip can be applied to the pottery pieces when some drying has occurred creating exciting patterns in a variety of colors as well as a raised texture.

Carving is another technique and requires some skill. The piece should be leather hard for the best results. Swirls, pattern, and pictures can be created depending on the skill and the preference of the artist. Sgraffito is a specialized technique in which slip of one color is used over the pot built from another color of clay. When the piece is carved it shows the color of the clay beneath the slip to create the pattern. Carving can also be used to form a press mold. Once the original pattern is carved it can be transferred to a plaster cast or clay which is then fired creating a mold which can be used again and again.

Texture can be created in the glazing process as well. Specialty glazed can cause crackling and bubbling. Some artists will develop their glazes to create the textured appearance that is unique to their pottery.

The textures that can be created on pottery is only limited by the imagination of the artists. It can be simple or complex but will always contribute to the appeal of the finished piece.

Obtain The Most For Your Money Any Time You Buy Art Online

Anyone who wants to buy art is going to want to get the most value for their money; indeed, that is the truth of any large purchase any of us make no matter what the product might be. The traditional system of art sales via a physical gallery is one that we have always known, but one that comes with a heavy commission fee on every sale made (often in the realm of 50% or greater of the total price) through a traditional brick and mortar galleries. This system does no one any favors except the owners of the galleries, and with the advent of the internet, it is perhaps time to turn our attention to the possibility that we can buy art online and save time, money, and reap the rewards of having the art world literally at our fingertips.

One of the major benefits for someone who has decided to buy art online is the ability to browse art galleries and marketplaces virtually from the comfort of their living room couch or office chair. There is certainly a lot of choice on many of the online art platforms, the drawback with many of these is that they are not curated and so there is low quality work mixed in with the higher quality art and a buyer can spend hours wading through the mix seeking the art they want to buy. If you are going to buy art online, finding an online art marketplace that selects the artists they represent and reviews the work they put up for sale is a very smart decision. Curation is essential for an online gallery because just like a traditional gallery, buyers are not going to want to have to spend precious time picking through work searching endlessly for what they desire. Instead they want to be presented only with recommended work, and then from there select an artist or a piece to research in more depth. So a benefit of buying art online is the option to browse and shop with an online gallery or marketplace that makes an effort to curate their content and display only the best.

Did you know that many online art galleries allow buyers to buy art online directly from the artists? It's true! Not only does this save the buyer time, it can also save a substantial amount of money and put more of what is agreed on in the artist's pocket. This benefits both buyers and artists because the buyers are happy, they paid less and got the quality of art they were looking for, and the artists are getting more of their asking price than they would in a traditional gallery setting. In short, everyone wins when people who want to buy art online do so by getting in touch directly with the artists who are selling art online. Some online galleries allow artists to post their contact details on their profile pages so that buyers can contact them on or off the website, and some allow for a private messaging system so that communications are kept on-site but are still secure. Because someone wanting to buy art online can speak directly with the artist of the work they are interested in, there is no limit to the questions that can be asked, or the amount of information available about a piece of art that is for sale.

Now that you have seen some of the benefits that can come your way when you buy art online, stay tuned for more information on this and other blogs and websites!

What Is a Lithograph and How Lithography Came to Be

The word lithograph comes from the Greek lithos (stone) and graphein (to draw). A lithograph is a print made using the printing technique of lithography, which is a drawing on stone. Lithography uses a flat and heavy limestone polished to a very soft and flat surface to allow for an image or text to be drawn upon it for printing.

The process of lithography uses greasy crayons and pencils which an artist uses to directly draw their creation onto the lithographic stone. Limestone has certain properties which allows it to receive water and grease. After an artist finishes drawing their work on the stone, one can wet the stone and then ink it. The stone will receive water in the areas that were not drawn because the grease of the pens with repulse the water. Then one applies the inks, which will stick to where the drawing or text has been applied to the lithographic stone. After this you can print the image on paper which becomes your lithograph.

The lithograph will often look like an original drawing or pastel, but it will not smudge when you touch it. Lithography was accidentally discovered by the Austrian Alois Senefelder in the late 1700s while he was looking for a cheap way to reproduce images. Before Senefelder's discovery images had to be printed using specialized printing techniques in the hands of very highly skilled craftsmen, such as engravers and etchers.

The use of lithography allowed artists to draw their art directly to a stone and then print it, whereas earlier the artist needed to entrust their drawings or paintings to engravers that would then reproduce the art onto copper plates using specialized tools. The use of this middle-man left much room for error. Lithography changed all of this and allowed the artist to remove the intermediary of the craftsman and deliver the artist's inspiration directly without error of interpretation.

In the fields of science and technology the advent of lithography was revolutionary. For the first time in history accurate prints could be made to enhance all facets of science. For example, a great proliferation of botanical, animal, insects and fish prints were beginning to be made using the new technology of lithography. New techniques in industry could be illustrated with detail which allowed colossal change to take place and helped the industrial revolution of the 19th century spread as fast as it did. The world we lived in was catapulted to modernity thanks to the use of lithography as a new technology in printing. This fact is often forgotten in today's history books.

Today the use of lithography still continues almost exclusively as an industrialized printing method using photography and metal plates, however the art world has adopted lithography for artistic creation in large part thanks to the contributions of early 20th century artists such as Picasso who used the technique to produce prints of his modern art.

It is now possible to purchase t-shirts, mugs, greeting cards, wall stickers, and a wealth of other products that depict the talent of this internationally renowned street artist. Five Portrait Styles to Look Out for This Christmas

Christmas is round the corner, bringing with it the season of happiness, cheer and family reunions. Portraits are often commissioned during this time, as a personal keepsake or as a symbol of family get-togethers. If you too are planning for a family portrait, then here are five interesting pop art styles that you may like to think about.

Scanner Darkly Style

Inspired by the cult film, a Scanner Darkly, this style of portraits is fresh in the market today. Creating this style makes use of the technique of interpolated rotoscoping, whereby normal videos/pictures are processed with animation done on them. This involves tracing on each image frame by frame making the use of vector keyframes. Technicalities apart, what results is a cartoon style portrait, that looks highly futuristic. Heavy black lines and solid blocks of colour dominate this style which looks great in contemporary settings. The background image of the portrait can either be selected from a readymade collection or be customized as per your choice.

Ligne Claire portraits

Lovers of Tintin will love this too. The 'ligne claire' or clear-line style of art focuses on line drawings with colour. Introduced by Herge, the Belgian creator of the Tintin series, this form of art found new life after the release of Spielberg's version as a film. Another style of cartoon portraits, what stands out here is the use of colour mixing and cartooning. The uniformity of line is used throughout the picture, colour contrasts are downplayed and equal attention is given to all depicted elements. The backgrounds are highly realistic while images are cartooned to create this effect.

Delftware style portraits

For those who constantly look for new styles in portraits, the Delftware promises a lot of freshness in idea and concept. Influenced by the pottery style in Delft, Netherlands, this pop art style makes use of aquamarine blues on a stark white background. Only outlines of the portrait are highlighted to give a picture that is interesting and that will look good against any background. Floral motifs that symbolize the original prints of Delft pottery can also be used to create a frame for the picture, adding to its look and appeal.

Andy Warhol Panels

When pictures of more family members need to be put together on one canvas, the panels style of Warhol portraits are a promising choice. The number of panels can be picked up as per choice and different portraits can be brought together on a common surface. For those who are not much aware of the Warhol style, this promises real images in bright contrasting colours. These can also be interspersed with messages or content to help the entire portrait communicate beautifully.

Photo collages

To put together the different elements of a Christmas get-together or vacation, collages are an interesting medium. Done up in a range of colours, styles and fashions, photo collages make up for great home and office décor. Different pictures depicting emotions, events or places are put together in plain, checkerboard, crystallized or random styles.

All these are just a few of the portrait styles which you can plan around. To get more information on them or to check out how your portrait would look in this style, do check out online galleries or ask experts for support. And we are sure that you will love the effect it will create.
